This book is a great example of strength based performance at work.  The author, Lee Cockrell, describes his emergence as a leader from humble roots.  He describes the things the experiences he personally went through, and things he learned that helped him develop into the powerful Disney executive that he is.  Then he provides the Disney nuggets of wisdom and Disney philosophy that make that brand so highly regarded internationally.

What I find very powerful about this book is the simplicity of the message.  Open communication at all levels, listening sincerely, and respect for all people create an atmosphere of dedication and longevity in the Disney organization.  Many organizations, both private and public sector, would benefit greatly by embracing these leadership strategies.

This is one of the essential books for new emerging leaders. This book has a short easy to use handbook feel to it, and is great as a reference guide. Clifton strengths finder identifies 34 basic themes that are present in all people. These are not as likely to be used as labels as other assessments such as the Meyers-Briggs. In essence they provide a common language of talents that individuals and teams can use to build stronger and more effective collaborations.

This is the latest in the Gallup University books about strengths performance. This book expands on the previous books by providing perspective on how to lead and manage people with the 34 Themes. It is a must read for leaders who want to bring a fresh perspective and departure from some of the more traditional ideals.

This book is a departure from the Clifton strengths based method, in only that it doesn’t use the 34 themes strengths. This book and the associate assessment allow you to assess yourself before you have applied his principals and after. In addition the assessments can be linked together to provide a team perspective on potential and growth. What is even more impressive are the inspiring and dynamic videos (some are made available through the book assessment) of Mr. Buckingham sharing his passion on the subject.
